Generation gap my ass. Let the old folks know that you're hip to their jive. Seriously, "23 Skiddoo" is probably the first real catch phrase in these United States. It's rumored this term was popularized in New York City at the Flat Iron building on 23rd St, where the winds were particularly gusty and guys could gather by the dozens to watch passing women get their skirts blown up. Police and doormen periodically broke up the onlookers, yelling "Skiddoo," short for skedaddle. Soon it became synonymous with "the bum's rush" and even came to mean something like "carpe diem" since you had to get yours before you had to get gone. It's a true classic--we just couldn't let it die.
